Show Choir Director
Jackson Preparatory School in Flowood, MS, seeks a professional leader who is committed to advancing the performing arts program and empowering students through creative instruction and artistic performance opportunities.
The Show Choir Director will work with and report directly to the Director of Performing Arts. S/he will work closely with academic and administrative staff across the campus and with the Applause (Fine Arts Booster Club) parent groups. The Show Choir Director (hereinafter referred to as the Director) will lead students in the spiritual, educational, and artistic aspects of fulfilling Jackson Prep's mission "to inspire and challenge students toward academic, athletic, and artistic excellence, instill personal integrity through biblical values, and equip students to pursue lives of distinction in service to society.”
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director will:
- Direct the Middle School show choir (Fusion) and the Upper School show choir (Reveillon), including the teaching of a dedicated class for each group.
- Manage all aspects of the annual show choir program, including music selection, choreography, music arrangements, rehearsal schedule, student and parent communications, budget, costumes, competition entry forms, and travel arrangements.
- Select and direct the show choir band.
- Oversee the production of the show choir sets.
- Participate in the selection, rehearsal, and production of a fall musical.
- Prepare students for participation in show choir competitions during the season.
- Prepare students for participation in the Homecoming National Anthem, Christmas Concert, and the Show Choir Showcase.
- Coordinate rehearsals/performances with the calendar scheduler and the person responsible for securing each building needed for use.
- Manage the show choir budget.
- Communicate with others in the department regarding all aspects of the show choir program, including coordinating all activities of the choral department.
- Schedule and run rehearsals for all show choirs, including choreography clinics with choreographers and other rehearsals throughout the year.
- Follow the Jackson Prep calendar and policies.
- Schedule and plan the annual show choir “Cadenza Ball” awards ceremony to be held at the end of the year.
- Schedule and obtain judges for the Fusion and Reveillon auditions in the spring, including a parent meeting following the auditions.
- Collaborate with parent organizers and Applause for the Show Choir Masters Competition, held in February. Recruit and send information to show choirs all over the country. Select and retain judges for Show Choir Masters
- Bachelor's or above in Music.
- 5 or more years of experience supervising show choir and/or expertise in directing music and choreography.
- Proficiency with vocal music and piano.
- Must exhibit successful leadership, organization, public relations, communication, and business skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to respond thoughtfully and decisively to the diverse needs of faculty, students, and their families.
- Excellent work ethic, modeling respect, honesty, and integrity.
- Ability to follow Jackson Prep policies.
- Familiarity with current technology, as well as social media tools; Jackson Prep is a Google school.
