Jackson Preparatory School in Flowood, MS, seeks a Director of Academic Support who will work with Middle and Upper School students who have documented learning differences from psycho-educational testing by providing accommodations and modifications in a formal written plan while supporting Jackson Prep’s mission “to inspire and challenge students toward academic, athletic and artistic excellence, instill personal integrity through biblical values, and equip students to pursue lives of distinction in service to society.”
The Director of Academic Support (hereinafter referred to as the Director) reports to the Director of Academics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the Academic Support program, including supervising other teachers within the program.
- Write and manage service plans for students in grades 5-12 who provide appropriate documentation from psychoeducational testing or medical documentation for certain medical conditions that warrant extended time on tests as recognized by ACT or the College Board.
- Serve as a primary resource for teachers, counselors, and parents seeking guidance for students experiencing academic difficulties who are not in the Resource program and may not have a service plan.
- Navigate the petitioning process for ACT and College Board tests for eligible students who wish to petition. This includes ACT, PSAT, SAT, and AP exams.
- Assist in procuring academic support/extended time testing in higher education after graduation.
- Serve as the primary advocate for Resource students, including communication with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Assist families at Prep or considering Prep who are interested in information about Prep’s Resource Program and other academic support services.
- Interpret and/or administer psychoeducational testing and communicate results.
- Master’s degree in the field of Education preferred
- 5+ years of teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of learning disabilities, psycho-educational tests, reports, and assistive technology
- Knowledge of administering and interpreting assessments and test results, academic achievement, and diagnostic testing
- Proven success as a leader in program development
- Good communication skills with students, parents, and teachers.
